Frequently Asked Questions
Automated quotation processing is the use of software to convert incoming customer quote requests into completed draft quotations without manual data entry. turian's RFQ Intake agent reads incoming requests in any format — email, PDF, Excel, or GAEB — identifies the requested products, matches them against the supplier's catalog, applies current pricing, and prepares a draft quotation for the inside sales team to review and send. This is different from CPQ software, which helps a sales representative build outbound quotes; turian handles the inbound request before the representative is involved.
turian automates the RFQ process by reading incoming quote requests in any format, extracting requested products and quantities, matching them to the correct items in the supplier's product catalog using contextual description matching, applying the applicable pricing, and generating a complete draft quotation for review. The matching step works even when the customer provides no article number — turian interprets the specification and finds the best catalog match based on the described attributes. The inside sales representative reviews the draft and sends it, rather than building it from scratch.
When a customer sends a vague request such as "500 units of the same connector we ordered last spring," turian queries the customer's order history, identifies the relevant prior transaction, and matches the product from that context. If the request remains ambiguous after checking history and the catalog, turian surfaces its best candidate with a confidence indicator and routes it to the inside sales team with the context already assembled. The representative resolves the specific ambiguity rather than processing the full request from scratch.
CPQ (configure-price-quote) software is designed for outbound quoting: a sales representative uses the tool to build and price a quote for a customer. turian's quotation automation is designed for the inbound direction: a customer sends a request and the system processes it automatically to produce a draft. CPQ does not eliminate the manual work of reading and processing incoming RFQs. turian does not replace CPQ for complex bespoke product configuration. The two address different steps in the quoting workflow.
For configurable products with multiple selectable parameters — such as pressure gauges with variable pressure ratings, connection types, and body materials — turian reads the specification in the customer's request, interprets each stated attribute, resolves unspecified dimensions using context-appropriate defaults, and identifies the correct configured product in the catalog. Where a dimension is genuinely ambiguous or outside standard parameters, turian flags it as an exception with the specific conflict identified, rather than silently selecting an incorrect configuration.
turian processes quote requests arriving as free-text emails, PDF attachments in any layout, Excel files in any customer-defined format, GAEB DA XML files (X83, D83, and other exchange phases), and mixed-format emails with multiple attachments. No template configuration is required for any format. New customer formats and new languages are handled on first receipt without a setup period.
